It is mandatory for everyone to carry a valid National Passport. Malaysian Government issue Single entry visa, Multiple Entry visa and Transit visa for the foreign people. The foreigners who are supposed to posses a visa to enter in Malaysia and who are coming on single entry visa will be able to stay there for three months from the date of issue of the visa. The multiple entry visas will enable the foreigners to stay in Malaysia for 3 to 12 months from the date of issue. Generally this kind of visa is required for business purposes or for the matters of government to government. The person who wishes to visit Malaysia must apply for one at Malaysian Representative Office. Visa application has to be done in the Malaysian Mission of respective countries but if it is not available in some countries then it can be applied to the British High Commission or Embassy.

Documents which are required for the application are given below:
1. Passport or Travel Document
2. The person should have three copies of the form of IM 47
3. The person will need 3 passport sized photograph
4. Proof of sufficient fund and journey travelling ticket are required.

There are a number of countries which do not require visa for social visit and can stay for some days in Malaysia without visa.
