Nepal is a small country situated in the border of India
and China and has a relatively small population in comparison to its neighbors.
Today, English is without doubt the global language. With the increasing need
for English speaking individuals in every sector of work, there is a rise in the
need of English teachers in Nepal as more and more people are learning the
language. Thus, a number of ESL teachers are required in the schools and
colleges of Nepal.
Apart from teaching, Relief work and agencies are the main employment areas for
foreign citizens. The ESL teachers can find jobs in the various international
schools and catholic schools of Nepal. Holistic Career Development centre,
St.Xaviers Catholic School, Kathmandu Baptist Bible School, etc are few such
schools which take in foreign teachers both for their temporary and permanent
posts from time to time. The TEFL institutions often place the teachers who are
employed in these schools. In addition, language schools like the British
council, British school, Lincoln school, Nabin School, etc employ TEFL teachers
in huge numbers. Students who want to teach for charity or for sheer experience
can join associations that are engaged in offering education for the
poverty-stricken children. Most of such institutions lack charity and thus
always welcome helping hands.
The schools are open in Nepal from Sunday to Friday with holidays being on
Saturdays, this is quite a different rule as most schools throughout the world
think of Sunday as an off day. When it comes to placements, plenty are
available. Pokhara, Chitwan and Kabhre offer for a lot of teaching post for
hopeful teachers. Another area of teaching is in the several Buddhist
monasteries, which though quite unconventional will provide an experience that
will be beyond anything that you can imagine.
